When we were at the wedding this past weekend, I found out the groom had recently gone to a hypnotist to stop smoking. I'm now really curious to find out if this works or if one day he'll randomly start quacking like a duck.
My hubby is a smoker (unfortunately) and it would be great if all he had to do was get hypnotized to stop. (Plus fork over a ton of money. Apparently hypnosis ain't cheap). The last time he attempted to quit, he got so cranky that I was about to hand him over a cigarette.
Have you ever been hypnotized? Does it really work for bad habits?

I've never known anyone who's tried it, but one of the DJs on my radio station swears by it!! I'd be interested to hear how that works out if he tries it!

My dad was the worst smoker and is the most stubborn man alive. He did it for $60 and hasn't smoked in 2 years!

It sounds weird, but I really want to be hypnotized to see if it works or not. I've witnessed people get hypnotized before and it's just so crazy to me! ha
ReplyDeleteActually my aunt was hypnotized to stop smoking (she was a legit chain smoker) and she never took a puff again! that's how I know it does work for some people! xo
ReplyDeletehttp://allthingsprettyandlittle.blogspot.com/
my husband smokes too and I hate it! I wonder if that really works for most people!
ReplyDeletei'm totally susceptible to hypnosis! although it's never been for a bad habit but more like a college show [where i was asked to act like a seatbelt] and in a cruise ship act [where i almost sang "oops i did it again" but was saved by a faulty cd player].
ReplyDeleteso long [embarrassing] comment short, it's worth a try!

I've always wondered about hypnosis. If it really works, why isn't it more common? I've seen hypnosis done live, but I still wonder how legit it is. And honestly, I don't want to find out! That is of course unless it's done on someone other than me!
ReplyDeleteCute outfit. My sister is having hypnosis at the moment to stop smoking and it is working. you can get a DVD/CD of the hypnosis too which is much cheaper and can work. My sister tried it but she is soooo addicted she needed one on one sessions lol. But it is worth a try before shelling out for one on one sessions. Good luck to him if he does decide to try it!

Cute look! I love your blazer and that pink sweater. I have never been hypnotized, but I have seen it done at shows. It sounds like it could work.
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about hypnosis! My uncle is a smoker and it wasn't until a recent health scare that he decided it was finally time to quit. He saw a hypnotist and hasn't had a cigarette in TWO MONTHS! (That's huge for him). I hope your husband can find a solution that works for him :)
ReplyDeletehypnosis is so interesting to me! i am not sure if it works but I guess it's worth the try! If he does you will have to tell us all about it!
ReplyDeleteI really have no idea about hypnosis, but I bet it does work for some people. Maybe the person has to be open-minded and willing to quit in order for it to work? Maybe he should try it, you never know! :)

Cute blazer, I love it with the sweater. I actually attended some ridiculous group hypnosis session for weight loss YEARS ago. Clearly, it didn't work. That doesn't mean I've discounted it, maybe the group atmosphere wasn't right?
ReplyDeleteLooking cute girl!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if this hypnosis thing works because I may send my fiance there to quit smoking! Ah, the joys of living with a smoker :)
Love the blazer and skirt combo! And that would be awesome if hypnotism worked for smoking!

I love this blazer! The pink stitching is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried hypnosis, but I've heard it's worked for some people - I think it works best if you have an open enough mind.
LOVE the pink :)
ReplyDeleteI have NEVER been hypnotized but I've always been SO curious.
I love that jacket with the pink sweater!

ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't hypnotized(yet).. For some reason I'm terrified just thinking about it, LOL!

Love the jacket and the pink sweater. Too cute. You made me laugh out loud with the quack like a duck...hahahahahaha...
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and grey combo! So classic! I dont know anyone who has tried hypnosis for things like that. But keep hearing about how great it is!

I went to a hypnotist about a year ago to help deal with some stress/anxiety issues (I'm a mom, wife and full time student...I was a little overwhelmed!). A lot of it was built up baggage. I saw him a 4-5 times and he felt we were done. I have to say, it helped. I didn't notice a difference at first, but certain events I had been holding on to I am now rather indifferent to. I still get anxious, but stress doesn't seem to accumulate the way it used to. It was expensive ($75/hour session), but was worth it. Just make sure you do your research on the provider and don't let them talk you into going indefinitely. Apparently a few sessions are usually all that is necessary for a single issue. I'd love to hear if he decides to go for it.
ReplyDeleteOh man! So sorry to hear that your husband is a smoker. I was just listening to the radio the other day and the hosts were talking about a study that showed that smoking actually takes an average of 10 years off your life. I say drive that boy to a hypnotist right now! Something has to work, maybe for him it will be this.
ReplyDeleteI love your boots <3 I head it works for bad habits, maybe you could try?

A friend of mine did it and it worked for him. It kinda creeps me out though. I would be too chicken for someone to play with my mind like that!
ReplyDeleteA couple of my friends tried hypnosis. It worked for two of them, not for the other. I think you kinda have to want to quit so you can tell your subconcious to be quiet!
ReplyDeleteI think the one it didn't work on didn't really want to quit!
Very cute outfit, love the blazer!

I got hypnotized in college for fun. I guess I was weird during and I felt horrible afterwards. They say you are supposed to feel rested. I felt hungover and sick. I am a little interested in hypnotherapy though. Not sure I have heard enough success stories to actually try it though!
ReplyDeleteLove the blazer, BTW! :)

Classy with a Kick
I actually don't know much about hypnosis yet. So I did a quick lit search for you. Studies on the use of hypnosis for smoking cessation have apparently been largely inconclusive, but this meta-analysis found that hypnosis in combination with nicotine patches "compares favorably with standard behavioral counseling in generating long-term quit rates."
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of cognitive-behavioral therapy in general. From what I know, it's less sketchy than hypnosis, more cost-effective than other forms of therapy because it's quicker, and insurance companies love it (because it's cheaper, quicker, and empirically supported). If you're concerned about costs, you may want to look into community mental health clinics instead of a private practice. Beginning private practitioners are also much cheaper compared to seasoned ones, but they're kind of hard to find. Training clinics in universities are another cost-efficient place to go.
Whatever the approach, I hope that he is able to quit very soon. My boyfriend's dad, a fit guy in his mid 40's, was diagnosed with throat cancer (in 3 different locations) in October. He started radiation and chemo in November. The holiday season was not fun for anyone. He is in an incredible amount of pain, as are his loved ones having to watch him go through this. I hate to be the annoying commenter who imposes her unpleasant opinions and experiences on people. Just wanted to remind anyone reading this that, if you're a smoker, now is the time to quit.
Hope the advice on the therapy helped.
-Nathy
Haha, of course. It totally slipped my mind that you're a licensed clinical social worker! I'm just an MHC student (although I haven't disclosed that on my blog for fear of future professional repercussions).
DeleteI really hope he's able to find something that sticks this time. And when he does, I hope you'll share his success story with your readers as well. :)
Oh I'm not a clinical social worker (just a licensed one) but nevertheless, I'm very familiar with CBT :) Thanks again for the advice!

I'm not sure about hypnosis, but I smoked for like 5 years and quit like a decade ago. What worked for me was having one less cigarette a day ver the course of a month. Since it was gradual it was much easier. It worked for me and I definitely appreciate having the extra money for necessities, like new shoes :)
ReplyDeleteGinny
I saw go for it! It may cost some money but if it works think of how much money you'd save in not buying cigarettes!

I never actually heard about this method to stop smoking, best to have some research made before hand. Talk about smoking, I quit cold turkey and it has been 9 years since. Well, honestly I still smoke 1 cigarette once in a blue moon especially when I meet up with old friends, you know just to be in the moment BUT never felt like I need to get myself a pack by any means. Smoking is a choice, one have to choose to quit, I believe. Hope your hubby will find the strength and a good reason (health, mainly) to quit :)

ReplyDeleteHAAAA! Quacking like a duck. Awesome. I'm curious about it too........who knew it was expensive AND that it works?!!?!
ReplyDeleteCute outfit! I love the blazer.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried hypnosis but my coworker has for his smoking habit and it worked! He's been clean for almost a year now and it's very surprising because he's smoked since he was 15 years old (he's in his mid-forties). He said that the hypnosis person made him think of eating dog everytime he thought about smoking (gross I know but it worked!). So it might be something to look into for your hubby. :)

Never been hypnotized and don't know anyone who's gone through it, but it sounds very very very interesting. I'm curious!
ReplyDeleteMy cousin was hypnotized at the fair and it really worked. They gave her a napkin and told her it was her security and she could never lose it. She would not give up the napkin and would freak out if anybody tried to take it. She ended up having to get hypnotized again so that she could let go of the napkin. It was pretty crazy. And for a couple years after, she'd get really mad if you brought up "the napkin"

The blazer is gorgeous and so are the cute boots! I never tried hypnosis but that's pretty cool that the groom was able to stop because of that.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm I have never tried hypnosis, but if it helped that groom quit his habit I say go for it.
ReplyDeleteI love your blazer! When my husband quit smoking he just went cold turkey. And I was definitely ready to hand him a cigarette a few times too! Man they're cranky! Hopefully whatever he tries will work! Great blog! Found you from Style Sessions. xo, Sarah www.comingunstitched.com

ReplyDeletesecond, i have never seen anyone get hypnotized - i'm so curious if it actually works!
Ugh, that quitting smoking is hard. My husband has smoked on and off for years and even when he's stopped for a year, the cravings are still strong. Good luck to your husband with quitting and yeah, I'm curious to find out if the hypnosis helped the other gentlemen! (And outfit wise, I love your blazer with the shorter skirt, it really balanced out those adorable boots!)
ReplyDeleteIf you can reach a deep enough trance then you'll be able to reprogram those messages in your subconscious mind about smoking and replace them with positve healthy thoughts, so that just one cigarette can cause nausea, and each day without smoking makes one feel fantastic.
