I wanted to say thank you for all your wonderful and encouraging suggestions on Monday's post. You guys inspire me on a daily basis! I think I'm in a fashion funk because lately blogging has felt more like work than fun. I'm really feeling the pressure to come with outfits that are fresh and not boring. Keeping up with a bazillion types of social media. Having posts that are witty and funny. Frankly, it's been exhausting. I don't want blogging to feel like a second job, so I need to figure out how to make it fun again.
On a lighter note, my neighbor came outside just as I was taking these photos and said "you belong on the cover of People!". Then he continued to make comments so I said, "I have a fashion blog. That's what I'm doing" because I felt like I needed to explain myself. Awkward!

I adore this outfit and I'm glad you continue to post. I got to the same place a few months ago, constantly feeling like a failure because my regular job/gym time left too little for the demands of blogging. Sadly, I've had to find a new balance that has meant a general stalling of growth and more importantly comment-interaction on my bloggy and it makes me sad but sometimes you just have to adjust to changes and find a new groove that works. I'm not 100% there yet but I think it's worth working towards. You know I adore your blog and I'm so glad you keep posting so in those rare times that I have a second to catch up on my favsies, you always have a big smile and adorable outfit to brighten my day!

Thanks Lori, you're too sweet! My schedule hasn't changed...it just seems like blogging has become more time consuming than it used to be and I have to figure out how to cut that back.
DeleteI always feel quite awkward when I'm taking my pictures and people drive by. I feel the need to blurt out I have a fashion blog, too and hand them my card! LOL Ah, the joys of being a fashion blogger ;) Loving this outfit, too. Classic black and white - perfection!

That is awkward and being in a funk is normal with a fashion blog! I feel like I have to constantly explain myself to my family about why I have a fashion blog. A lot of people don't get it, but I love your blog and that shirt is sooooo chic! Hope you have a great day, and hope you find more inspiration soon! You look fab for being in an outfit idea funk! XO. Pip
ReplyDeletehaha isn't it awkward when people see you getting your photo taken?! Love how you layered all these pieces Sharon!
ReplyDeleteJust keep everything real & be yourself....the inspiration will come in a flash my dear! I understand your sentiments on blogging....but you are doing fine esp. with this outfit of yours!!!

love the layered look! and I feel the same sometimes about having to wear some "really" fashionable or new. BUT I remind myself that I like seeing what real people wear and I love your outfits!
ReplyDeleteBlogging is hard work, but you definitely need to find that balance for yourself to keep it fun! Oh goodness, I avoid having to explain what a 'style blog' is at all costs... I can only imagine the awkwardness.
ReplyDeleteYou DO belong on the cover of People! I love this outfit!!!
ReplyDeleteI hear you with blogging sometimes feeling like work. When I feel like that I take a day (or week) off and make sure I'm doing it because it's fun for me. Recharge and re-inspire yourself! xo

Blogging is hard work, and sometimes it does feel like a second job to me too! Its funny you talk about "shopping" your own closet. I am posting on that very topic in a few days! I think you look fabulous and your neighbor is the awkward one for even saying anything! Look out People..... Here comes Sharon! Oh,and I love the sweater!
ReplyDeletexo
Getting caught taking outfit pictures IS a little embarrassing. One time my FIL just stood there and watched. So awkward! Love this look lady!

ReplyDeleteThose shoes are so cute! I love them with the rest of the outfit!
ReplyDeleteLove the black and white, especially with those fabulous pumps! I hate when neighbors see me taking photos...a year and a half later and I'm still so awkward when it happens :)

I LOVE, LOVE this! The sleeves are to die for adorable on this outfit!
ReplyDeleteI totally hear you--that's the way I've been feeling lately too. As a result I've been pretty lazy with blogging and especially with social media. But I figure that this is a hobby and it's supposed to be fun, so I'm not going to make it "work".
ReplyDeleteSo nice to hear that compliment! I agree about keeping this fun and not a second job! You look great today!

You better take that as a compliment because you totally belong on the cover of People.. or even Glamour!! {I'm a sucker for Glamour magazine lol} If you feel like you need a little blog break, you should take one, you deserve it :)

my neighbor once busted me making a funny face into a camera on a tripod, by myself. it was very uncomfortable. what can you do??? if you took a break, only posted a few times a week, whatever, we will still be here to read! we love your blog, and want you to love it, too!!
ReplyDeleteI totally feel ya on blogging feeling like work sometimes because of the constant pressure to create unique content and always be on top of social media. Just remember it's OK to take a day off if you're just not feelin it that day!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is really cute! Someone said something to me when I was shooting my last outfit pics too, haha

ReplyDeleteI love this outfit today! The studs on the sweater are fun! I hope you're able to keep coming out of the blogging funk! It should be fun!
Great look! I love your heels. Haha, awkward! At least you got a compliment out of it :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're on the up and up Sharon. I find that when I'm in a rut the best thing to rejuvenate yourself is to take a little break. Love your black and white today. Great casual look!
ReplyDeleteFunny story about your neighbor! I have found myself explaining myself to people too!
ReplyDeleteI love that you layered and the studs add a bit of jazz to the outfit!

This is a super cute striped top! :) Love it layered!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I always feel so strange when I'm taking pictures and people start staring. Oh well. hah.
ReplyDeleteI most definitely know how you feel Sharon! Blogging is WORK! It's a lot of pre-preparation, thought, following through and advertising. There are many steps to creating a post. It's not easy. That's why I talk about so many different things. It gives me an option to move to something else when I'm bored with a certain area. I also try and deplug on the weekends. When I'm really burnt out, I only put together about 3 posts for the week. There's always something to do with a blog. You do a great job!

I always get really awkward when people walk by or stare while I'm taking photos..lol I hope you get out of your funk soon! I love those pumps!
ReplyDeleteAre those studs? Love! I completely understand how you feel. Just know you are awesome and hang in there. Also, your shoes are fab.

UG. I know you you feel Shannon thats why I have kind of stopped! It was fun while it lasted but it felt like work. I like to read blogs/write on my own time which is what I started doing. Love this outfit though, you look so cute! Those shoes are great.
ReplyDeleteCover of People? More like the cover of Lucky or Glam. Love your studded sweater, Sharon. You are never boring when you are as adorable as you. I understand about feeling like it's a 2nd job. Wanted to ask what you do at the Assisted living home? you can email if you want. d_flexe@yahoo.com dawn suitcase vignettes
ReplyDeleteUgh, that is awkward! I know some of my neighbors see me, but they don't say anything. I can only imagine what they must think of me having my photo taken on a daily basis all out in the open in public.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the studs on your top! Super cuteness.

Ha...that is why I don't take pictures!
ReplyDeleteAs for blogging, sometimes taking a break can help. It did for me. Also, keep blogging for you; even if you don't think anyone else will like your outfit or post, do it anyway. We all have boring outfit days. It's completely normal and makes you human! :)
I think you are doing a great job and love reading your blog!

Classy with a Kick
Take a break from blogging or blog about something else. Or find what you'd rather spend your time on and do that for a little bit.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy to think that something we love can turn into so much work... but it happens to all of us, somehow.
I agree, as soon as I started feeling pressure about blogging the fun side disappeared, a little break helps a lot!!! Great look Sharon!

Sharon, I love this look! And I know what you mean about blogging. Sometimes we all feel the pressure to put together something different. But just keep in mind your blog is all about YOUR style. So keep putting together what you love. That's the beauty of fashion...it's different for everyone.

So cute! I totally know what you mean!! I have had to get creative with pieces in my closet but that has been fun. It forces you to remix things that you already have. But sometimes it's slim picking...

It's called blogging funk....we all go through it. But when it stops being fun, then you may need a little break. It can get so overwhelming. Just go back and think about why you started to blog in the first place....hang in there and just stay TRUE to who YOU are! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's true, blogging should always be fun and not feel like a chore. You look super cute as always! :)

Funks suck because blogging should definitely be fun. That's why I'm not doing it as much lately, lol. I just don't feel the need to drag my butt out of bed to take pictures in the freezing morning air. That's work! Love the simple black and white with the pop of color in your shoes:)
ReplyDeleteI hate when blogging feels like a chore! I hope you find it fun again soon! I love the black and white! It's one of my favorite outfit color combos!

ReplyDeleteand you do look like you should be on the cover of People!!
People are so funny! You look adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou look too cute girlie!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Sharon! I can totally related when you said that blogging feels like a second job more than just a 'hobby' that you do with a lot of passion. I'm kind of going through very similar feeling at this moment and I have decided to slow down some things around until I find the right balance again. But I think you are doing a fantastic job with the blog by staying true to yourself and always being so honest and sweet in every post. I always find inspiration in your blog, so I really wish for you to continue to have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteYou look very cute in this preppy-girlie outfit. Always loved a nice striped top over a classic white shirt!

I know the feeling...because I am kind of feeling the same way. Sharon I think most of us go through this blog has become more like work vs. fun. Between answering comments, staying up to date on trends, consistently thinking of new outfit ideas by searching for inspiration, and remembering to take photos to fb/tweet it's a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is definitely time-consuming, and sometimes a step back and a break is so refreshing. Also taking the pressure off of yourself to get followers and read a million blogs and constantly update and etc. etc. can make it more enjoyable! I was exhausted trying to keep up with everything a few months back, and finally decided something has got to give. So now I only comment on blogs I really enjoy. I don't stress about stats and followers or being the next Kendi. That's what makes it fun for me. I know I'm not ever going to quit my job to blog full-time or be famous, so I can just enjoy myself!
ReplyDeleteI hate when the neighbors catch me taking my dang blog pics! HA!
ReplyDeleteTake a few blog days off! Give yourself a break!
Haha love your neighbor! I always wonder what people think is going on when they drive by my house and I'm taking pictures! Cute look! Love your top!

Aww, I sad to hear that you're in a funk with the blogging right now. I had a terrible time blogging this summer, I just wasn't very motivated to take pictures or write and I felt like I could put together any cute outfits. I just stopped worrying about it this fall and wore what seemed like fun. I always love your outfits, they're so cute and easy for anyone to wear so I hope you don't feel too much pressure to constantly "think" of new things. You're such a sweetie, I hope it works out for you and you're able to do something you enjoy with the blog. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I always love seeing your outfits! And it's so awesome the compliment your neighbor gave you. Don't be afraid to take a blogging day off (or two) It will lift your spirits!
ReplyDeleteWhen people see me take photos, I feel the need to explain too. lol. If your not enjoying blogging, maybe try taking a break for a week. It might be all you need. But only make it a week cuz if it's long than that your readers might get sad :)

Such a cute look! I completely get the funk thing and feeling the need for explaining the photos! Sometimes you do just have to take a small break (I did over the holidays), remember why you are doing it and enjoy the moment (easy to say - hard to do)! Anyhoo, just found your blog. Great sense of style and again I love this look! This top is fab!
